Richard H Whiting, 84, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2018, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Richard was born August 11, 1933, in Topaz, Idaho, near Lava Hot Springs, to Alfred Reese Whiting and Eva Harper Whiting. He grew up and attended schools in Darby, Montana, and graduated from Darby High School. Richard served in the Military Police of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He served as Commander of the American Legion Unit in Teton County. On June 4, 1959, he married Lorena Mae Murdock in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. To this union were born five children, JoAnn, Douglas, Steven, Janet, and Brent. Richard and Lorena made their home in Stevensville, Montana, and later moved to Victor, Idaho, where Richard worked as a building contractor and was the Director of Public Works in Victor. He was also Mayor of Victor for three terms. Richard was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully fulfilled many callings in his wards. He was ordained to the Office of Seventy by Spencer W. Kimball. He enjoyed hunting, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, snowmobiling, and woodworking. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lorena Whiting of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, JoAnn Whiting of West Valley, UT; son, Douglas (Patricia) Whiting of Murrayville, IL; son, Steven (Kathryn) Whiting of Kearns, UT; daughter, Janet (Steven Jackson) Whiting of Driggs, ID; son, Brent (Dana) Whiting of Idaho Falls, ID; brother-in-law, Lowell Hale; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Maveen (John, deceased) Bennett; sister, Evelyn (James, deceased) Baird; sister, Alice Hale; and brother, Melvin (Lana, deceased) Whiting. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, with Don Thompson officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., both times at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery where Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
