RICK TURNAGE IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Richard David 'Rick" Turnage, 63, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully at his home on June 13, 2006, after a nine year battle with cancer. He was born June 11, 1943, in Portland, Oregon, to Richard Earl Turnage and Ina Millicent Millard Turnage. He grew up and attended Lauralwood Academy in Gaston, Oregon. He then attended Moler Barber School and soon owned his own barber shop. He attended Benson Tech and CSI in Twin Falls and also Vo-Tech in Idaho Falls. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Rick was a wonderful, witty, and service oriented man. He made friends easily and was well liked by everyone. He was a Hunter Education Instructor for 20 years for Idaho Fish and Game. He was Instructor of the Year in 1988. For 15 years, he loved playing Santa Claus. He always made sure that everyone had a nice Christmas. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was in the High Priest Quorum Presidency, Elders Quorum Presidency, and he was a well loved scoutmaster for many years. He helped many boys get their Eagle award. He was very proud of his Silver Beaver award. He loved camping, fishing, and hunting; but his real love was music. He collected hundreds of vinyl records and cassettes. He knew most of the music artists and the bands that they sang for. He especially liked funny songs and also Ray Stevens and Jeff Foxworthy. He enjoyed providing music for church dances. He also loved wood carving and carved walking sticks for those in his Silver Beaver group. He loved playing cribbage and telling jokes. Rick married Carol Baker and they had two children, Terry Rae Erickson of Alaska and Angela Heath of Portland, Oregon. They were later divorced. He then married Bonnie Nelson August 8, 1963, and they had five children, Richard Dee (Kathy) Turnage of Rigby, Tawny Lane Louise Turnage (deceased), Randy Daniel (Jennifer) Turnage of Idaho Falls, Rebecca Delania (Garin) Erickson of West Richland, Washington, and Reggie Dean (Gaylene) Turnage of Idaho Falls. They were later divorced. On August 29, 1986, Rick married Loma Joy Dickson. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on August 29, 1990. Rick sold permanent cookware, was manager of Orange Julius, Sbarros, and 17th Street Car Wash. He also drove truck and school buses. Survivors include his wife and children, his father, Richard Earl Turnage of Portland Oregon; three step-brothers, Jerry Kruettner of Vancouver, Washington, Don Johnson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Ronnie Johnson of Oregon City, Oregon; a step sister, Barbara Call of Gresham, Oregon, 20 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ina Millicent Millard Turnage, and a daughter, Tawny Lane. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 17, 2006, at the Idaho Falls LDS Sage View Ward, (the Rosewood Chapel on Clarence Street, off 26th West to the west), with Bishop Lyle Stephenson officiating. The family will visit with friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Taylor Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, in Idaho Falls.
