RICHARD SOMMERVILLE IDAHO FALLS, ID - Richard Leo Sommerville, 63, of Idaho Falls, died November 19, 2003, at his home from an extended illness. He was born October 16, 1940, in Idaho Falls, to Leo Lawrence Sommerville and Ellen Moore Sommerville. He attended Idaho Falls elementrary and High School, then Pipe Fitters Trade School. He married Lana Jardine and they were later divorced. He married Alyce Faye Woolf December 27, 1986, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He went to work for ICI in 1960 and worked his entire career for ICI. Dick started as a shop employee at a young age and turned into the best project manager in mechanical aerospace piping. Dick's career was one of exciting work and times. From working as a young man on the simulated space chamber in Texas to being the project manager on the space shuttle engine test facilities in Mississippi, the Saturn rocket test facilities in Mississippi and Alabama, and Space Launch Complex Six in California. Dick was the manager for ICI on NASA's test facilities from the first manned space flight to the future evolving expendable launch vehicle. He was a member of the 648 Local Pipe Fitters Trade and Trust. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Surviving are: Wife: Alyce Sommerville, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Suzette K. (Dale) Clayton, Rigby, ID Son: Kevin L. Sommerville, Rigby, ID Daughter: Laurie A. (Jim) Staggs, Rigby, Id Stepson: Troy J. Johnston, Idaho Falls, ID Stepdaughter: A. Kim Johnston, Seattle, WA Stepdaughter: Gayla L. (Don) Davis, Graham, WA Sister: Julia Kaye (Bob) Aho, Coeur d'Alene, ID 8 Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, LaRae Butterworth. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 22, 2003, at the Wood East Side Chapel, 963 South Ammon Road, with Bishop Todd Johnson officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday, 7-8:30 p.m. and for one hour before services on Saturday, both at Wood East Side Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Eastern Idaho, 1920 East 17th Street, Ste. 200, Idaho Falls, ID 83404. Burial will be in Iona Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home East Side.
