Richard "Dick Rohweder" Rohweder

Richard Walter Rohweder, 73, passed away at his home on October 1, 2011. Dick was born in Glasgow, MT to Walter Wilson Rohweder and Helen Egatha Jensen Rohweder on June 10, 1938. Dick spent his childhood in Montana, Alaska, Washington, and North Dakota, with his family settling in Idaho Falls in 1952. He graduated from Idaho Falls High School went on to attend the University of Idaho and Idaho State College. Dick met Rosemary May Hammer at Idaho State in 1959. They were married December 30, 1961 in Boise, ID. They made their home in Idaho Falls, where Dick began his career with Phillips Petroleum. Working through various INEEL contractors, he became part of the management team of the Engineering and Graphics division. Dick was also a partner in Snake River Land and Cattle Company. Dick had a lust for learning, mentoring, and inspiring those around him whether in his career or personal life. He enjoyed the outdoors with his family, including camping, hunting and fishing. Being an avid reader and self-taught man, he was eager to share his skills with his children and grandchildren. Among his favorite things in life were: Cold draft beer, pool playing and sometimes his family. He was quick witted and no one knew what he would say next. He was a riddler of facts and figures and had a story for any topic. Dick served in the 116th Engineering Battalion, Army National Guard. He was affiliated with the Elks, Eagles, and Idaho State Historical Society. He was a member in good standing of the R&R Men’s Social Club. Dick will be missed by many as a-one-of-a-kind man. For his family, he was and always will be their Compass Star. Dick is survived by his wife, Rosemary, his three children: Rick Rohweder, Roxane (Jose Garza) Rohweder and Randy (Linda) Rohweder; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; his parents Walt and Helen Rohweder and his sister Carol (Frank) Jones. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Dale Rohweder. We would like to express our sincere appreciation for Dick’s care given by Dr. Christian Shull and his staff at Snake River Oncology and Alliance Home Hospice. Thanks for sharing with us your love, laughter, and tears. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Wood Funeral Home, (273 North Ridge Avenue). Dick’s family suggests donations be made to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Mail Stop J5-200, PO Box 19024, Seattle, WA 98109-1024.
