Richard Lee “Rick” Gilbert, 62, of Rigby, Idaho, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was surrounded by family members and made a peaceful exit. Family joked that he was probably thinking his signature party-departing catch phrase, “Welllll...alright,” as he left.
Rick was born March 1, 1960, in Midvale, Utah, to parents, Richard and Norma Gilbert.
On July 1, 1995, he married his loving wife, Paula Knudsen Gilbert.
He loved his family, rose painfully early for his morning coffee, spoiled all the dogs he ever had, spent countless hours sitting on his back porch watching the hummingbirds, and even more hours fishing on the lakes around Utah and Idaho. He also worked the majority of his adult life as a skilled and reliable heavy equipment mechanic where he was given the nickname, “Wrench.”
Rick is gone too soon and will be sorely missed by all those that knew and loved him, in spite of, and sometimes because of, his tough exterior.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Paula Gilbert; sisters, Julie Haggin and Jolene (Kevin) Gillins; his “boys,” Ryan and Tyler; step-daughters, Melissa and Erin; and the rest of his devoted and loving family, Rhys, Morgan, Henley, Davis, Sara, and Cody.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life Open House will be held at a date yet to be determined.
