Richard Lynn Powell, 69, of Ashton, passed away August 9, 2021, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Richard was born October 30, 1951, in San Bernardino, California, to Loise Everett Powell. He grew up and attended schools in the San Bernardino area.
He graduated from Pacific High School and then served his country in the United States Army. He served in Vietnam as a Specialist—E4 from December 20, 1969, through November 3, 1970. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Bronze Star, two Overseas Service Medals, and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Following his military service, he worked as a correctional officer. He also attended Cal State University and earned a degree in Accounting, a profession in which he worked until his retirement.
On March 11, 1995, he married Debbie Marie Schmidt in San Bernardino, California. In addition to California, they lived in Arizona, and retired to Ashton, Idaho.
Richard loved all outdoor activities: camping, fishing, and riding the Razor. He enjoyed traveling and “homemade good food.” Most of all, he loved his family; he never missed a birthday, holiday, or other special occasion.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Debbie; children, Richard Jr., Michelle, Christian, Daniela; three stepchildren, Christina, Jason, Jeremy; and 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Loise Everett Powell.
