Click Here To View Memorial Video Richard “Dick” Earl Hahn, 73, of Boise, passed away on May 22, 2015 in Idaho Falls. He was born January 1, 1942 in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania to George Francis Hahn and Elizabeth Jane Frankovich. He lived and attended schools in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania graduating from Mount Pleasant Township High School. He attended Pennsylvania State University where he studied Industrial Engineering. His family moved to Hollywood, Florida where he was then drafted into the US Army in 1963 and served as a Military Police Officer in the Dominican Republic. After being honorably discharged, he moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho. He married DeAnn Russell on August 19, 1967 in Idaho Falls. They moved to Seattle, Washington where he attended The Art Institute of Seattle. It was at that time he found a passion for photography and worked as a Commercial Freelance Photographer. They moved back to Idaho Falls where they lived for 33 years, raising 5 children in the Coltman area and later divorced. His career began as a Fireman with the City of Idaho Falls in 1971. He quickly progressed to Paramedic, Fire Captain, Training Officer, Fire Marshal, Deputy Fire Chief, and later promoted to Fire Chief. In 1989, he was appointed Fire Chief and Division Director for Fire, Ambulance & Bonneville County Fire District #1 and retired in 1996. In 1998, he accepted a position as the Deputy State Fire Marshal for the State of Idaho Department of Insurance. In 2004, he was promoted to Chief Deputy of Fire Investigations for the Idaho State Fire Marshal’s Office and moved to Boise, Idaho. He married Karen Lee Brooks on September 13, 2004. He retired from the State Fire Marshal’s Office in 2008. Dick’s many hobbies included being creative with anything he could get his hands on. He was very artistic and could carve a piece of wood into a beautiful masterpiece. He loved photography and art. He was an accomplished carpenter and built his family home and cabin. He could fix anything. His children begged him to make his famous sourdough recipes. His scones were the best. Dick loved the outdoors. He built his own black powder rifle and revolver and enjoyed black powder hunting. He had a passion for white water rafting, hiking, and the peaceful sounds of nature. He liked to read and was also a great gardener. He is survived by his wife, Karen; his 4 daughters Tyla Boyette of Bayside, New York, Janae Hahn of Fort Worth, Texas, Tera (Brad) Carver of Idaho Falls, Jalene Humphries of Fort Worth, Texas, son Jamon Hahn of Idaho Falls, and 10 beautiful grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, 1 brother Regis (Sandi) Hahn of Idaho Falls, and sister Connie (Ron) McKee of Milton, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Jake Humphries. Dick was a proud Father and will be missed by all his family. We love you, Dad, until we meet again.
