Reynold "Renny" Donald Tanner

Reynold Donald Tanner, of Rigby Idaho, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. "Renny" was 74 years old and left this earth surrounded by his family.

Renny was born on January 15, 1952, in Rigby, Idaho, to Donald Marvin Tanner and Gladys Ellen Peterson Tanner. He was raised in Rigby, where he attended local schools and graduated from Rigby High School before continuing his education at Idaho State University.

On November 30, 1973, Renny married the love of his life, Kathleen Crossley, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Together they built a beautiful life in Rigby, where they raised their four children-Jared, Justin, Jana, and Jake-on the family farm. There, they instilled in them the values of hard work and the importance of family, while creating a lifetime of memories. Renny established Tanner Ranch and Livestock, where his passion for agriculture, dedication to the land, and tireless work ethic were evident in everything he did. Nothing brought him greater pride than building a life alongside Kathy and watching their family grow.

Renny loved spending time outdoors and could often be found golfing, fishing, hunting, or riding side-by-sides. More than any hobby, though, his greatest joy was simply being with Kathy. They treasured their time together, spending summers in Rigby and winters in Fort Mojave, Arizona, where they enjoyed countless days on the golf course and exploring the desert on their razor. He will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his beautiful wife, Kathy, and the many cherished friendships he built throughout his life. Whether he was working, golfing, or simply spending time with those he loved, he appreciated life's simple pleasures. He was known for his quick wit, contagious sense of humor, and a stubborn streak that was simply part of who he was. His family wouldn't have wanted him any other way. Beneath his tough exterior was a man who loved deeply and wholeheartedly. His laughter, stories, and larger-than-life personality will be deeply missed and treasured forever by his wife, children, grandchildren, and many friends who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

Renny is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Kathy Tanner of Rigby, Idaho; his children, Justin (Annie) Tanner of Montrose, Colorado; Jana (Tony) Hepworth of Hyrum, Utah; and Jake (Baylee) Tanner of Rigby, Idaho; his sister, Marcia (Kent) Riley of Rexburg, Idaho; 13 beloved grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Gladys Tanner; his son, Jared Tanner; and his grandson, Ethan Tanner.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, Ammon, Idaho. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Annis-Little Butte Cemetery.
