After living 89 wonderful years, Rex D. Morgan passed from this earth March 31, 2015. Rex was born September 10, 1925, in Downey, Idaho, to J.D. and Sadie Morgan. He had an idyllic childhood where he helped his dad in all his many enterprises.
He graduated from Downey High School where he was known as a scholar and athlete and selected as Class Speaker for his graduating class. In 1943, he joined the Army Air Corps to serve his country and left his commission in 1946 as a first lieutenant. He readily pursued a college education at the University of Utah where he played wide receiver for the Utes, was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and excelled in academics receiving a B.S. in business.
On New Year’s Day, Rex met his loving wife Rosie, on a blind date. He took her to a movie at the Paramount Theatre in a brand new Oldsmobile and afterwards squired her to the Topper Club. Soon after, his marriage proposal was accepted and a grand wedding followed on Feb. 11, 1950.
Rex and Rosie moved to Idaho Falls where he and his father opened Morgan’s Better Farm Equipment. Later, he joined forces with Rosie’s dad, Lloyd Holden, and together they ran L.B. Holden Farm Co. and L. S. Taube Produce.
Rex and Rosie often traveled to their winter home in Scottsdale. Ariz., where Rex hit the links and the pool. During the summer, the two spent leisurely hours at the family cabin in Island Park, Idaho. His favorite pastimes were enjoying his children and grandchildren, casting the perfect fly, bird watching, reading and solving crossword puzzles.
Rex leaves behind his girl of 65 years, Rosie, three daughters, Courtney Morgan; Alexis Rippel (Paul); Liz Loughney (Dick); and son, Holden (Stefanie). He is survived by his grandchildren, Ben, Malory, Kate, Mimi and Sally. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Gerry Lundahl, granddaughter, Sadie Morgan, and son-in-law, Randy J. Stimpson.
The family will be having a private service with internment at Rose Hill Cemetery.
