Rex Anderson

Rex "Kay" Anderson, 82, formerly of Idaho Falls, passed away February 19, 2017, at Idaho State Veterans Home in Pocatello, Idaho.

Rex was born November 10, 1934 in Thornton, Idaho to Rex Gibson Anderson and Donna Vea Scott Anderson. He was the middle child; older sister Ina (Ken) Santo and Doris (Wayne) Roundy. He grew up and attended schools in Rexburg, Idaho. He joined the military serving in the United States Navy with an honorable discharge.

Rex married Gae Nell Johnston in San Diego, California while in the Navy. Out of the marriage were two daughters, Kaylyne, Cathy, and a step-son Lyle Schwartz. They later divorced after several years. He married Laree Gayle Monk in Elko, NV. After her passing, he spent most of his time with his companion Ole Smith; who took outstanding care of him in his later years.

Rex was an avid outdoorsman; fishing, hunting, motorcycles, and boating. He would drive in the mountains with a two-wheel drive vehicle where no two-wheel drive vehicle should go. None of his vehicles had a straight fender or door but they would always get him to where he wanted to go. He always had a story and loved to tell them to anyone who would listen. He would spend several days picking huckleberries in the mountains and selling his wares. He was an early member of the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Jeep Patrol.

Rex worked in the construction industry as a heavy equipment operator.

Rex is survived by step-son Lyle (Susan) Schwartz, daughters Kaylyne (Matt Miles) Anderson, Cathy (Al) Wagner, 11 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Donna Vea Anderson, wife, Laree Anderson, and sister Doris.
