Renee (Reynolds) Somsen

Carol Renee Reynolds Somsen, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, returned to her Heavenly Father on August 11, 2025, after a short but courageous battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. She was 82 years old.

Renee was born on January 15, 1943, to Wilford and Lois Murri Reynolds. She grew up surrounded by a large and loving family and remained close to her five brothers and sister throughout her life: Blair Reynolds (Ann), Curtis Reynolds (Julie), Kim Reynolds (Janet), Richard Reynolds (Shawna), and her sister Vicki Evans (Doug).

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Renee devoted much of her life to serving in various church callings. One of her greatest joys was serving as Primary President, where she lovingly taught and guided the children of her ward. Her kindness and testimony touched countless lives.

Renee married Jim Bloom, with whom she was blessed with three children: Julie Ann Diaz (Bloom), now deceased; Lori Renee Nielson (Bloom); and Michael James Bloom, also deceased. Later, she married Jay Somsen, and they shared 38 wonderful years together before his passing.

Those who knew Renee will remember her deep love for animals. She was known to carry bags of food to feed stray animals in her neighborhood and cared for many beloved pets throughout her life.

She is survived by her daughter Lori Renee Nielson, her siblings, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss her dearly.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the Wilford Cemetery, 2540 East 225 North.
