Rea Mallard

Rea Guelda Harker Mallard returned to heaven Wednesday, August 2, 2017, after a long struggle with illness stemming from a stroke she suffered in 2002. Rea passed peacefully in the presence of her children and her beloved husband, Warren. She was born on February 14, 1933 in Shelley, Idaho to Joseph Clarence Harker and Maggie Elvera Glenn Harker. Rea graduated from Firth High School and attended Glenn E. Clark Business College leading to a job with Beneficial Life Insurance until her marriage to Warren Quincy Mallard on April 8, 1953, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Rea was an avid gardener, quilter and baker. Rea and Warren collected vintage furniture which she would then restore. She took on many remodeling projects at their home on 5th street in Idaho Falls both with Warren and on her own. She enjoyed the outdoors by camping and driving through the countryside with her children. Rea and Warren traveled to San Diego several times in the past few years where she enjoyed the ocean and salt air, while reminiscing about the early years of their marriage when Warren served in the Navy. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served faithfully in many callings. She had a strong testimony of her Savior. One of her greatest joys was her family and spending time with them. Rea was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Vera Harker of Firth; as well as three brothers; two sisters; son, Larry Mallard, who passed away 4 years ago on August 4, 2013; daughter-in-law, Peggy Mallard (wife of Douglas Mallard), and two granddaughters, Crystal and Camille. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Warren; children, Douglas Mallard of Idaho Falls, Steven (Susan) Mallard of Ogden, UT, Rozanne (David) Green of Lewistown MT, and Nancy (David) Beckstead of Pocatello; daughter-in-law, Pamela Mallard (wife of Larry Mallard); a brother, Theo (Sherril) Harker of Carson City, NV; and two sisters, Gwen Sheldon of Washington and Ethel (Pete) Jephson of Idaho Falls, ID. She was blessed to have 21 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. A private funeral service for family and personal friends will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. A private family gathering will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in theShelley-Hillcrest Cemetery.
