Ray Mcevers

Ray L. McEvers, 82, of Ammon, passed away May 26, 2014, at his home. Ray was born December 20, 1931, in Burley, Idaho, the son of Mr. Ernest McEvers of Burley, Idaho, and Mrs. Freida Manning McEvers Stalker of Burley, Idaho. From the age of 14, he was also raised by his stepfather, Mr. Foster H. Stalker. Ray was educated in Burley and Springdale, Idaho, and Elko, Nevada, in his early years. He served in the Army with the 25th Infantry Division, 8th Field Artillery Battalion in Korea, and was among the first troops rotated back to the U.S. in June 1951. He received an honorable discharge as Staff Sergeant after completing his enlistment and required involuntary extension in June 1952. Ray's last stop in the Army was Fort Hood Army Base in Killeen, Texas. During his time in Texas, he met his beloved Brooksie Nell Vaughan at a dance. Three weeks later, they were married in Temple, Texas, on April 12, 1952. They resided in Utah for three years and southern California for twenty years. They then made their way to Ammon, Idaho, where they lived for nearly 40 years. They also spent many happy summers and winters at their cabin in Island Park, Idaho. Ray worked for Fruehauf Trailer Company, Hadco Engineering Company, and Aeroject General Corporation as a Cost Estimator and Financial Analyst prior to joining the Planning and Budgets Group at the INL, and retiring in 1987. Ray will be remembered for his great sense of humor. Even during his last few days, he would have all of his visitors laughing. A few of his favorite activities included snowmobiling, golfing, and bowling. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, believing always in his free agency. Survivors include his daughter, Debra Anderson, of Renton, WA; his sister, Barbara (Paul) Short, of Twin Falls, ID; his grandson, Damon Anderson, of Sammamish, WA; and his nieces, Terri Corthell and Brenda Rice, of Twin Falls, ID. He was preceded in death earlier this month by his wife, Brooksie. After 62 years together, they were blessed to only spend a few weeks apart. Also preceding him in death were his parents; and his granddaughter, Brooke Anderson. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, please hug a friend and/or send flowers to your loved ones. A joint memorial service for Ray and Brooksie will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
