RAY T. JACOBS 1917 – 2007 IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Ray Theron Jacobs, age 90 years, going on 120 plus, passed away October 17, 2007, at his home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, of causes incident to age. Born February 6, 1917, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Rex Haynes and Clare Julia McHale Jacobs. Married Mary Beth Harris September 30, 1941, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They were partners on this earth for 64 years, 10 months, and 20 days, and had seven children: Kendall (Barbara), Missouri; Susan, Idaho Falls; Michael (deceased); Steven (deceased); Gretchen (Dave) Rocknak, Idaho Falls; Kirsten Wildblood, Idaho Falls; Jeffery (Janeen), Roseville, CA. Ray served in World War II as a Captain in the Army Air Corps, piloting B-29's and training pilots, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the USAF Reserves. He worked for many years at the atomic energy site in Arco as a Chemical Engineer. Ray was a gifted scientist whose research, systems and inventions are still used in text books, science and industry. His studies took him beyond the state-of-the-art in space launch and space travel, seagoing crafts, and numerous industrial, scientific, atomic energy, and large scale multi-craft construction projects like the NASA space project in Houston. Having done so much work at the leading edge of these fields, he made the statement, "The farther you go into even a science, the more it gets into the realm of an art, because there is still much that hasn't even been established.” He understood, and often expressed, the spiritual connection with all truth and that this spiritual connection enhances one's ability to learn established truth and receive inspiration to explore and discover new things. He liked to say that the search for truth takes courage; first, because the truth may be different from what you already thought, and second, because responsibility comes with knowledge. The hand of God was visible to him in ALL things each and everyday. Both Ray & Beth were champions in the cause of liberty, the Constitution, and the gospel of Jesus Christ. They were, and surely still are. Survived and missed by five children, 22 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren, as well as by siblings Don, Hyde, and Alan. Predeceased by his wife, Mary Beth, sons, Michael and Steven, parents; sister, Ruth, brothers, Glen and John. A graveside service will be held at Taylor Cemetery at 11 a.m. Monday, October 22, 2007. Military rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Honor Guard. Donations to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Perpetual Education Fund, c/o Bishop Sheldon Dance, 5295 South 15th East, Idaho Falls, ID 83404, in lieu of flowers, would be appreciated by Ray. --------------------------------- Condolences received online: Richard and Delores McHale I loved Ray not only as a dear cousin but a true friend.
