Charles Ray Dickson, 82, of Idaho Falls, passed away August 19, 2012. at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Ray was born August 20, 1929, in Henefer, Utah. to Bert Stoddard Dickson and Grace Merriam Toone Dickson. He grew up in Devil’s Slide, Utah, and graduated from the University of Utah with a master's degree in meteorology. Ray served in the U. S. Marine Corps in California during the Korean War.
On March 13, 1952, he married Marjorie Woodhead in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, Corona, California, and Kansas City, Kansas, before coming to Idaho Falls 55 years ago in 1957.
Ray was a Meteorologist at the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration Idaho Falls Research Center at the INL and for the Department of Commerce. He co-authored over 50 publications on meteorological research, NASA, and environmental research issues. After retirement he devoted his life full time to Marge and his family.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ray served as Bishop, Young Men President numerous times, on the Stake High Council, in scouting, and as a Stake Missionary. Ray had an upbeat personality and made friends wherever he went. He had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to make others smile, and loved to serve all he met.
He loved traveling all 50 states and knew where to get the best ice cream in each one. He also traveled to Egypt, Europe, England, and Austria. Ray loved dogs. He enjoyed camping with family and friends for many years and often shared memories of a favorite trip down the east coast.

Son, Mike (Sheila) Dickson of Iona, ID
Sister: Merriam (Tom) Rogers of Bountiful, UT;
Sister: Diane (Ed) Myrup of Murray, UT; and
Sister: Connie Dickson of Salt Lake City, UT
7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marge, his brother, Don Dickson, and his son-in-law, Boyce Ator.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 24, 2012, at the Idaho Falls LDS Grandview Ward, 1450 Mountain View Lane, with Bishop Travis Wilkins officiating. The family will visit with friends from Noon to 12:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will be next to Marge in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
