RAY T. COSENS
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Ray Thomas Cosens, age 72, died at home Friday, April 28, 2006.
He was born October 16, 1933, in Norwich, New York, to Walter Arthur Cosens and A. Pearl Salisbury Cosens. He attended the Norwich District Schools and received a BS from SUNY at Cortland, New York, MS of Audio Visual Aids from Indiana University, and an MS in Library Science from USC. He served in the U. S. Army for two years.
Ray was an educator with the Oxnard Elementary School District, teaching at Haydock Junior High School and retired in 1994 after teaching 35 years. He enjoyed all sports, playing football in high school and college. He continued playing tennis, golf, and daily trips to the gym until health problems interfered. Ray enjoyed teaching, coaching, the students and co-workers. He enjoyed the company and friendships of many. He was an avid reader with many interests. He was loved and respected by those who knew him.
On March 25, 1961, he married Anna Faye Roberts, in Carmel, California. They made their home in Oxnard, California, for 38 years, where they raised their two children. They moved to Idaho Falls in August, 1999, leaving the congestion and traffic Southern California brings. Ray loved to travel, making many trips to the east coast in October after the school district changed to a year round schedule. He always said it was his salvation, teaching 60 days then having 20 days off.
Ray is survived by his wife, Faye, a son, Michael (Jovita) Cosens; a daughter, Jane (Steven) Branch, all of Idaho Falls, grandchildren, Michelle, Rachel, and Eric Cosens; Caitlyn, Tyler and Lauryn Branch; sister-in-law, Eleanor Cosens, and nephews, Peter and Seth Cosens. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Fay S. Cosens.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2006, at the family home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to your favorite charity or to Hospice of Eastern Idaho, 1810 Moran Street, Idaho Falls, ID 83401.
