Raquel Flores Luna, 65, of Newdale, Idaho, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on May 8, 2021, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Raquel was born February 18, 1956, in Trujillo, Jalisco, Mexico, the daughter of Alberto Luna and Maria de Jesus Godina. She grew up on the family ranch with her parents and 11 siblings.
On April 1, 1974, she married the love of her life, Salvador Flores in Jalisco, Mexico. Raquel and Salvador left their families to start their American adventures in 1975. Finding themselves in Idaho, Florida, Nebraska, Oregon, South Dakota, and eventually returning to Teton Valley, Idaho, where they raised their four children on the Rammell Brothers Farm.
She was a member of the Catholic church, but as a true Christian she held her LDS neighbors and friends dear to her heart. Raquel loved to cook, and fed anyone that came to her table. Her love of cooking showed in the amazing food she would make. Raquel loved her flowers and gardening. She would spend hours outside nurturing and tending to her flowers. Raquel’s favorite thing to do was spend time and make memories with her 14 grandchildren and two great granddaughters.
Raquel is survived by her husband, Salvador Flores of Newdale, ID; daughter, Belinda Carrillo (Shay Plagmann) of Rigby, ID; daughter, Cristina (Guadalupe) Alvarez of Roberts, ID; son, Antonio (Maricela) Flores of Shelley, ID; daughter, Amy (Vildo A.) Renova of Jackson, WY; 14 grandchildren; and two great granddaughters. Also surviving her are four brothers and four sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three siblings, Graciela, Alberto, Leobardo Luna; her father and mother-in-law, Emilio and Paula Flores; and son-in-law, Matt Carrillo.
A Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2021, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon. The family will visit with friends until 8:30 p.m. following the Rosary. Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1690 E. 17th Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho, with Father Ron Wekerle, conducting. Burial will be in the Cache-Clawson Cemetery in Tetonia, Idaho.
