AMMON, ID -- R. Kent Shelley, 60, of Ammon, Idaho, died June 10, 2009, at his home of a sudden heart attack.
He was born November 4, 1948, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Ralph James Shelley and Elma Ivene Exeter Shelley. He grew up in Pocatello and attended Roosevelt Elementary School, Alameda Junior High, and graduated from Highland High School. He earned an associates degree from Idaho State University's electronics program.
He married Jan Taylor in March, 1973, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, and they were later divorced. He lived in Blackfoot before moving to Idaho Falls.
He married Dixie Lynn Yates November 9, 1996, in Idaho Falls. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple March 18, 2000. He worked for AMI in Pocatello, then for Bechtel/Bettis at the INL/NRF until his retirement two years ago.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served full-time in the Guatemala/El Salvador Mission from 1968-1970. Kent enjoyed fly fishing, camping with his family, music, gardening, hunting, tying flies, and old western movies. He loved cooking and barbequing for family and friends, spending time with his grandchildren, and playing Santa Claus at Christmas.

Daughter: Terrisa (Jayson) Peterson, Ammon, ID
Daughter: Jana Berry, Ammon, ID
Sister: Pam (Terry) Glenn, Pocatello, ID
Sister: Kathy (Gary) Allen, Chubbuck, ID
22 loving Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Beth.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2009, at the Ammon LDS Stake Center, 2055 South Ammon Road, with Bishop Brian Hobbs of the Ammon 5th Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
Burial will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.

I had a wonderful time years ago working with Kent at AMI. He had such an infectious laugh that he could lighten the mood anytime. He was great to work with and a joy to know. He will be missed.
