Ralph C. Alexander, 83, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 17, 2017, at Morningstar Senior Living Center.
Ralph was born August 1, 1933, in San Angelo, Texas, to Joseph N. Alexander and Christine Ainned Alexander. The family moved to Pocatello where he graduated from Pocatello High School. He also attended Idaho State University. Ralph was a Sergeant in the Army Air Corps during the Korean War where he was selected and trained in air traffic control.
On September 17, 1955, he married Joy Georgann White in Pocatello, Idaho. To this union were born two daughters: Kim and Julie. Ralph took a position with The Federal Aviation Administration in the Air Traffic Division, which took he and Joy to several places in the United States, and 6 years in Guam. They returned to Idaho Falls when Ralph was promoted to Tower Chief of the Local Airport Control Tower and Local FAA Coordinator for all of Eastern Idaho. He also owned The Hackle Den, a fly shop, and worked at the unemployment office.
He enjoyed fly tying, fishing, was an avid golfer, and was a man of many talents. He invented the flame guard which protects the pilot light on trailers. Ralph was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church.
Ralph is survived by daughter, Kim (Jeff) Williams of Ammon, ID; daughter, Julie (Gary) Gough of Spokane, WA; two grandchildren, Laura Haugan and Eric Gough; and 4 great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two aunts, Ruth and Winnie.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2017, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, with Pastor Matt Swenson of Gethsemane Baptist Church officiating. The family will visit with friends from 1-1:45 p.m. on Thursday prior to services at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery with military performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
