Click Here To View Memorial Video Preston Hyrum Butikofer, 92, of Idaho Falls, passed away January 16, 2015, surrounded by loved ones at his home. He was under the care of Encompass Hospice. Preston was born September 15, 1922, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Rudolph Arnold Butikofer and Bertha Lucille Linck Butikofer. He grew up and attended schools in Coltman and graduated from Ucon High School. Preston proudly served with the United States Navy during World War II from 1942-1946. Preston met the love of his life Thelma Young and after a short courtship married her on March 5, 1948 in Coltman, ID. They later solemnized the marriage in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on November 9, 1963. To this union were born nine children, Philip, Steven, Bettie Jo, Michael, Kevin, Kathie, Jill, Teresa, and Gregory. Preston and Thelma made their home in Coltman, Idaho, where Preston worked as a farmer. Daddy retired when he was 65 and had many pleasurable travels with his beautiful wife. They bought a winter home in Ajo, AZ, sold it and bought another in Hurricane, UT, so that they could be close to their son, Philip. Thelma passed away April 18, 2012. Dad was a very humble man, dedicated to his family, and farm. On this farm he grew potatoes, wheat, hay, peas and corn while also running a successful dairy. Dad lived a full and happy life, enjoying many outdoor activities. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, woodworking, gardening, and of course, his grandchildren. He was also very supportive of his wife's passion for making quilts. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Preston is survived by daughter in law Sue Butikofer of Leeds, UT, son, Steven(Fran) Butikofer of Soda Springs, ID; daughter, Bettie Jo Cupps of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Michael (Maggie) Butikofer of Rigby, ID; son, Kevin (Julie) Butikofer of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Kathie (Eugene) Havens of Vacaville, CA; daughter, Jill (Warren) Hawkes of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Teresa (Jim) Krynicki of Yucaipa, CA; son, Gregory (Lisa) Butikofer of Morgan, UT; brothers, Merrill, Eldred, Howard , Reed and sister, Maurine May; 27 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma, a son, Philip R. Butikofer, his parents, a sister, Gladys Treffry, three brothers Maurice, Allen, and Johnny, and granddaughter, McKala Butikofer. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 noon Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at Coltman LDS building, 12448 North 5th East, with Bishop Dennis Love officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, and Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Grant-Central Cemetery. The family would like to extend their genuine love and thanks to Daddy's nurses Cindy and Cheryl and staff of Encompass Hospice. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team.

11 am ,Wednesday, January 21, 2015 Idaho Falls LDS Coltman 2nd Ward 12448 North 5th East Idaho Falls, ID 83401 Notes: The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, and Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Grant-Central Cemetery.
