PHYLLIS GODFREY Click here to view a video of Phyllis' life The best creator of paper snowflakes in southeastern Idaho has gone to heaven. Phyllis Mae Godfrey, 85, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 8, 2008, at Idaho Falls Health & Rehabilitation Center. Phyllis was born December 23, 1922, in New Sweden, Idaho, to Hattie LaVerna Larson and Alfred Curry Bowman. Phyllis grew up and attended schools in St. Anthony, where she graduated from South Fremont High School in the class of 1941. She married John E. Godfrey, of Newdale, on September 18, 1941, during World War II. A son, Larry, was born to them in 1943. After John's service in the U.S. Navy, the family moved to Idaho Falls. In an age when many women did not work outside the home, Phyllis had a working career. She spent many years as an office manager in the wholesale produce business, first with Pacific Fruit and Produce Company and later with Norton Fruit. Phyllis always loved her home and lavished time and attention decorating and caring for it. She lived on Reed Avenue for 50 years and her home was her pride and joy. With advancing age, her house became too much for her and in 2007 she moved to the Idaho Falls Health and Rehabilitation facility in Idaho Falls. Phyllis enjoyed the care she received and the good food provided. She was also under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho. Phyllis is survived by her son, Larry (Arla), her two grandsons, John (Jennifer) and Jim (Stephany), and one great-grandson, Nathaniel. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2008, at the Idaho Falls LDS Grandview Ward, 1450 Mountain View Lane, Idaho Falls, with Gordon Ward, counselor in the Bishopric, officiating. The family will visit with friends Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home. --------------------------------------------- Condolences received online: Shirley Woodruff & Betty Cole shirley@yostonline.com Phyllis was a good neighbor and has been missed from her home on the corner of Reed and Beverly. Bill and Sharon Hockensmith To all Phyllis' friends and family we send our heartfelt condolences. Although we only knew her through her son Larry and daughter-in-law, Arla, we admired her spirit and caring nature. What a remarkable lady she was and one, we know, who will be missed by all who had the privilege of having her in their lives. We share your pride and your grief. Bill and Sharon Hockensmith McKinney, Texas Excellence in Dentistry idaleann@hotmail.com We had the privilege of serving Phyllis' dental needs from 1999 thru 2004. It was an honor to get to know her and visit with her at least twice a year. Her tenacious spirit motivated us all. She will be missed. Raylene Johnson I knew Phyllis from working at the Rehabilitation Center. She was more than a patient to me. She was my friend. Even after I quit working at the center, I came back to visit with her. She was a very special lady and I will miss her dearly.
