Phillip D. Short

Phillip D. Short, 81, of Idaho Falls, passed away January 21, 2024, at MorningStar Senior Living Center. He was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho and his loving family.

Phillip was born October 7, 1942, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to L.W.  Short and Marie  Young Short. He grew up and attended schools in Blackfoot, Idaho, and graduated from Snake River High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps.

While stationed in California, he met the love of his life, Linda Carol Orsbern. They were married on October 12, 1963, in Westminster, California. Phillip and Linda made their home in Blackfoot until both retired. They then moved to Arizona for a few years and finally settled in Mesquite, Nevada. Phillip belonged to the Operating Engineers Local 370 working as a heavy equipment operator for multiple companies until his retirement in 1997.

He was a member of the Blackfoot Elks Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting, gambling, and being around family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Phillip is survived by his wife, Linda Carol Short of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Paula Summers of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Lisa Short of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Dan Short of Meridian, ID; sister, Marylou (Norbert) Henschied of Boise, ID; sister, LaRita (Michael) Hendricks of Firth, ID; sister, Glenda (Dennis) Woods of Filer, ID; sister-in-law, Karen Short of Blackfoot, ID; brother-in-law, Leon Cantu of Idaho Falls, ID; three grandchildren, Amy (Dan) Schofield, Kole (Reina) Summers, and Taylor (Kassandra) Short; and 4 great grandchildren, Braxton Schofield, Kora Summers, Ivy Summers, and Konrad Summers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, L.W. and Marie Short; sister, Lorene Cantu; and brother, Wayne Short.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
