Dr. Peter Collins

DR. PETER COLLINS IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Dr. Peter J. Collins (Papa) beloved husband, father and grandfather left us early Tuesday February 27. He began his life in England, where he earned his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics with an emphasis in Nuclear Physics. He came to the United States in 1970, where he enjoyed and cherished a twenty-five year career at Argonne National Laboratory-West as a nuclear physicist. His career culminated after a memorable two years in Japan. Although he retired in 1997, his ambition and voracity to learn, study and advance his knowledge truly remained with him to his final day. He spent much of his time studying numerous fields such as biology, anthropology, cosmology, physics, literature and the Japanese language. His main passion, though, was listening to classical music and operas, as well as traveling the world collecting and reading books of all topics - all of which he enjoyed with a fine Scotch. Those closest to Peter will fondly remember him as a humble humanitarian with a sharp wit and a huge heart. Peter is survived by loving wife Margaret; five sons, John (Diana), Adrian (Danielle), Martin (Jennifer), Stephen (Laura), and Julian (Ashley); five grandchildren, Peter, Kelsey, Morgan, Audrey and Adelaide; and two sisters, Pam and Marilyn. Friends are invited to a celebration of his life Friday, March 2, 2007, at 2797 Woodbridge Drive, Idaho Falls (casual attire). Please attend anytime after 6:00 p.m. to meet with family, share favorite stories and memories and toast his honor. “You silly old fool, you made it alive past sixty-five!” We will miss you dearly, Papa.
