Penelope "Penny" Ann Ownbey passed away on April 1, 2019, at the age of 74, in Idaho Falls.
Penny was born May 22, 1944, in Miami, Florida. She was the oldest of four children and grew up and attended school in St. Petersburg, Florida. At the age of 12, she met the man she would share her entire life and love with. On September 29, 1961, she married Marion "Buck" Ownbey. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Washington, D.C. Temple. Buck and Penny were married for 58 years and have 6 children, 16 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was a convert and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various capacities, including a temple worker in the Orlando, Florida, and Boise, Idaho, Temples. Penny was a school bus driver for over 30 years and enjoyed the time she spent with the special needs children she transported. Her hobbies were sewing, crocheting, genealogy, and spending time with family. Penny loved to talk to people and never met a stranger. She was always kind, caring, and more than willing to serve others. Penny loved her family and they will miss her dearly.
She is survived by her husband, Buck Ownbey; children, Shane (Nikki) Ownbey of Pasco, Washington, Scott Ownbey of Palm Coast, Florida, David Ownbey of Meridian, Idaho, Rick Ownbey of Tampa, Florida, Penny (Rob) Bryson of Brooksville, Florida, and Shawnda (Gordon) Welker of Shelley, Idaho; sisters, Debbie Collins of Brooksville, Florida, Lynn McCormick of St Petersburg, Florida; and brother, John McCormick of Brooksville, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family wishes to express thanks to the wonderful people at Encompass Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate care of our mother.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2019, at the Shelley 4th Ward Building, 184 N. Park Avenue in Shelley. The family asks that any flowers be ordered through Petal Passion of Ammon, Idaho (208-522-6565) who will deliver prior to the service.
