Peggy Ann Weiss Harvey, 76, of Iona, passed away Friday, March 1, 2013 surrounded by loved ones. Peggy was born September 9, 1936, in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, to Margaret Elizabeth Bailey Weiss and John Joseph Weiss. She was the oldest of five children. Her family moved from Pennsylvania to Blythe, California, where she attended school. She graduated from Pasadena City College with an AA, AS, and a nursing degree in 1984. Peggy married Lorel Dean Harvey on February 24, 1953, and later they were sealed in the Mesa Arizona temple. They had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They had six children: Lorie, John David (Becky) of Idaho Falls; Lisa (Dr. Marlin) Richardson of Cody, Wyoming; Leanne; Jay Dee (Celeste) of Iona; Michael Dean (Becky) of Shelley; and a foster daughter, Burnetta Peek Knudsen of Missoula, Montana. Peggy had a variety of jobs in her life. She worked at Dairy Queen in Blythe, California, as a car hop on roller skates, See's Candy saleslady, school bus driver, she bred and raised show dogs, she was a rare bird breeder, and florist, but her favorite job was being a high risk labor and delivery nurse. She served in the following church callings: LDS Social Services, Cub Scout Leader, Relief Society Secretary, Primary Secretary, and Visiting Teacher. Peggy would wreck, move walls and redesign the family home like moving furniture! She loved to cook and eat Mexican, Chinese and Japanese food. She enjoyed finding cultural events for her family to attend. They often would visit museums and art galleries. Her and her family enjoyed taking camping trips and being outdoors. In her later years, Peggy was an avid reader and enjoyed word search puzzles. Peggy is survived by her husband, Lorel Dean and their children; 14 grandchildren: Jeffrey Stephen Rowland of Alta, CA; Dr. Marlin Dustin (Lauren) Richardson of Denver, Colorado; Brandon Jacob (Angela) Richardson of Worland, Wyoming; Jill Louise Richardson, Kathryn Elizabeth, Joshua Thomas, Ryan Christopher Harvey (currently serving an LDS mission in Belgium/Netherlands) of Idaho Falls; Jonathan Michael Harvey, AL; Jason Taylor Harvey of Boise; Jacob Ryan Harvey of Mississippi; Samantha Harvey of Shelley; Linda Jeanne Harvey of Iona; Amy and Sara Knudsen of Missoula, Montana. Five great grandchildren: Jasper Moody and Alora Lillian Richardson of Worland, Wyoming; Ella Joyce, Alexa Louise, and Madeline Teresa Richardson of Denver, Colorado. Her siblings: Nancy Lee (Gary) Watson and Linda Jean Hayes of Blythe, California; Jack (Nancy) Weiss of Banning, California; and Judith Janelle (Lee) Moore of Henderson, Nevada. She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter-in-law, Rebecca Brown Harvey, great-granddaughter, Kerrigan Mae Richardson, and brother-in-law, Clifford Hayes. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the Iona LDS 7th Ward, 1040 North Crimson Drive, Idaho Falls, with Bishop Doug Weber officiating. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at the Iona Cemetery.
