It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul William Schwabedissen, 89, of Idaho Falls, Idaho. However, we rejoice knowing that on November 14, 2016 he went into the arms of his Savior Jesus Christ.
Paul was born on July 18, 1927 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Fred and Ricka Schwabedissen. He graduated from Ucon High School in Ucon, Idaho in 1945 and was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served at the Percy Jones Army Hospital in Battle Creek, Michigan where he crafted prosthetic legs for wounded soldiers. He then attended the University of Idaho and graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor's degree in agricultural education. He began teaching vocational agriculture classes at Roberts High School in Roberts, Idaho.
He married Betty Jean Bohi on November 25, 1953 at the First Presbyterian Church in Idaho Falls, Idaho. After two years of teaching, he began operating the family farm until he started working at the National Reactor Testing Station, now known as the INL. He worked several positions and, after 33 years, he retired in 1989 as a buyer.
Paul was a long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, wood-working, gardening, traveling, and spending time at his summer home in Island Park, Idaho. He also enjoyed the company of his friends, family, and grandchildren.
Paul was a loving husband to his wife until she passed in 2012 and was a wonderful father, grandfather, and friend to many. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his three sons: Randy (Clereece) Schwabedissen of Vancouver, Washington, Brent Schwabedissen of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Kevin (Susan) Schwabedissen, also of Idaho Falls; 6 grandchildren: Heather (Vince) Wilcox, Elana Dunford, Jesse (Layne) Schwabedissen, Justin Schwabedissen, Clint Schwabedissen, and Amanda (Ty) Dickson; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; brother, Roy Schwabedissen; and grandson, Json Schwabedissen.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your favorite charity or Hospice of Eastern Idaho (1810 Moran St., Idaho Falls, ID 83401) who provided exceptional care for Paul during his last few weeks.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at Trinity United Methodist Church (237 N. Water) with Reverend Ruth Marsh officiating. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge) and on Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park.
