Paul Lewis Raymond passed away June 29, 2021, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Paul was born on November 8, 1931, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Harmon Francilla Raymond and Ella Maude Lewis. He was named after Sister Paul, a Catholic Nun.
Paul attended Roosevelt Elementary School, Irving Junior High and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1949. Paul joined the Army and served during the Korean War. He worked in company headquarters and battalion headquarters where he served as group clerk. Paul had the privilege of assisting the LDS Chaplain. In spring of 1952, he witnessed the atomic bomb in Nevada, supplying communication for the press. When he returned from military service he worked at Floyd and Harry’s Drive Inn, and was a messenger at Western Union. Paul also worked as a librarian.
Paul was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attended the Pocatello Fifth Ward for many years. The church was just around the corner of his home. He was currently part of the Sageview Ward in Idaho Falls. He served as a Deacon, Teacher and Priest. He served as secretary and first counselor in the Elder’s Quorum. In 1963, he was called as ward clerk where he would serve in that calling for 60 years. He served in two universities stakes, Pocatello ISU Stake and Brigham Young University-Idaho Stake, both times as ward clerk, serving under 15 bishops. He enjoyed life as a bachelor and spending time in his church callings and was active in genealogy work.
Paul is survived by his good friend, Charles Park; nephew-in-law, David "Lane" Anglesey of Pocatello, ID; nephew, Steve Raymond; nieces, Laura Maureen Raymond and Melody Ponce De León; and great-niece Cathy Maui´a.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Otho, Russell, Wendell, and Filo; sisters, Connie, Valerie, Joyce, and Phyllis; father, Harmon Francilla Raymond, and mother, Ella Maude Raymond.
Services will be held at 12:00 pm Friday, July 9, 2021, at Mountain View Cemetery, Pocatello, Idaho.
Military Rites will be performed by the Bannock County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
