Pam McCool

Pamela Hunt Wright Clark McCool, a devoted mother, sister, wife, and passionate supporter of the arts, peacefully passed away on July 16, 2026, at The Gables of Idaho Falls, with her daughter by her side, just days before her 93rd birthday.

Born and raised in Rye, New York, Pam lived a life marked by creativity, generosity, and a deep appreciation for beauty. She met Jan Marasek working in the theatre in New York City and they married in 1955. They had two children, Lex and Chris. After Pam and Jan divorced, she and her sons moved to Wyoming to live on her grandmother’s cattle ranch, the Triangle Q in Wilson. A few years later, she met Larry McCool, a fellow artist. They were married in November 1968, and Larry adopted her daughter, Gwynn, in 1969.

Pam played a key role in shaping Jackson Hole’s arts community. She was a founder of the Center for the Arts, and supported organizations including the Jackson Hole Fine Arts Guild, Dancers’ Workshop, Wyoming Ballet Theater, and volunteered at the National Museum of Wildlife Art. In her spare time, Pam enjoyed gardening, creating beautiful paintings, making jewelry, reading, and helping Larry with their business, Fish Creek Pottery.

Pam was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; niece, Mary; cousin, Cathy; parents; and ex-husband, Jan.

Pam is survived by her brother, Skip in WY; her children, Lex in AZ, Chris (Teresa) in CA, and Gwynn (Jason) in ID; her grandchildren, Gidget (Ryan), Drake, Catie, Mike (Brianna), Tyler (Kali); numerous nieces and nephews; 5 great-grandchildren; and so many people who called her mom and Amah.

Pam will be remembered for her warmth, vision, and the lasting impact she made on her family and community.

A family memorial will be held at a later date.
