Owen Karstad

Owen Frederick Karstad, age 96, passed away April 16, 2015, at The Gables of Ammon Assisted Living in Ammon, Idaho. He was under the care of his family and Encompass Hospice. Born May 15, 1918, in Pocatello, Idaho, he was the son of Henry Meyer Karstad and Jessie Minnie Reese Karstad. He married Grace Hutchings June 29, 1950 in Pocatello, Idaho. He graduated from Pocatello High School and received bachelor degrees in Forestry and Accounting from the University of Idaho. He was a CPA. He worked at the Atomic Energy Commission in Idaho Falls, the Space Nuclear Propulsion Office in Las Vegas, Nevada, and finished his working career at NASA in Washington, D.C. Grace passed away November 27, 2006. He served in the Army in World War II and was a prisoner of war. He received a Purple Heart for being wounded in action. He had very few interests other than his family. He loved to be with family members. He was very handy with tools. He would enjoy working on many household projects. He is survived by his son, Steven O. Karstad (LaRee), Idaho Falls, Idaho; Son-In-Law, Nathan Adams, Sr.; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Hutchings Karstad; daughter, Marilyn Grace Adams; grandsons, David Owen Karstad and Kevin William Karstad; brothers, Robert (Linnea), and Walter (Roberta) Karstad; sisters, Florence (Clarence) Bohi, Jessie (James) Welch, and Louise (Robert) Larson. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015, at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah, under the direction of Wood Funeral Home in Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Saturday prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Murray City Cemetery.
