Ossian Leonidas Packer, 82, of Idaho Falls, passed away at home, August 17, 2015 surrounded by his family.
Ossian was born December 8, 1932, in Thomas, Idaho, to Grant Parkinson Packer and Florence Peck Packer. In 1936, the family moved to Idaho Falls, where he attended East Side Elementary, O.E. Bell Junior High, and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. From 1951-1954, during the Korean War, Ossian served in the U.S. Army and earned the rank of Sergeant. Three months after he was discharged, he was called on a full-time LDS mission. He served in the Eastern Canadian Mission. He served in Windsor, Trenton (where he was made Branch President), and Kirkland Lake, Ontario. In 1956, after his mission, he returned home to help on the family farm. During the winter months he attended Ricks College and Utah State University.
On August 20,1959, he married Donna Lee Rudd in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They made their home in St Anthony. They had six children, Lynnette, Lori, Lisa, Lee, Flint, and Michael. Ossian enjoyed being with Donna and their children. They enjoyed the outdoors, and love reminiscing about their ski trips to Grand Targhee, fishing, and water skiing trips with their boat, Cloud Nine. Over the years he and his family enjoyed many trips to Lake Powell, as well as Bear Lake. His children and grand children have many fond memories of their trips with Grandma and Grandpa each summer. Through the many insurance trips he earned he became a world traveler and visited many countries with his wife. In their later years they enjoyed taking their motorhome to many areas of the country and visiting their children and grandchildren.
Ossian was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life, serving in many callings, including the Bishopric, Young Men, Ward Missionary, and many years working with the youth in scouting. In his later years he enjoyed working with the High Priests in his ward and his callings as ward mission leader and temple worker.
Ossian was a kind, generous, loving husband, father, and grandfather. He influenced all of us by his great example, his strength and his faith. He will be greatly missed, but his family knows he is having a joyful reunion with the many family members who have gone before him, especially his dear wife Donna. His family, as well as many friends and neighbors dearly love him.
