ORVIN V. BATES
Orvin Verl Bates, Sr., 77, longtime resident of Idaho Falls, died December 3, 2001, at Pleasant Grove, Utah.
He was born April 2, 1924, at Rigby, to Ormus Vernal Bates and Inez Erma Brown Bates. He grew up and attended schools in the Rigby area. He served as an MP and medic in the Army during World War II.
He married Reta Lucille Summers November 7, 1942, at Woodville. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They made their home in Idaho Falls, where he worked as a clerk for Union Pacific Railroad. He also worked as an independent home roofer.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many different capacities. He enjoyed his grandchildren, camping, and fishing; his loving heart and good nature will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are:Son: Daryl [Janet] Bates, Pleasant Grove, UTDaughter: Kathy [Lynn] Woodvine, Bothell, WADaughter: Gayla [Lance] Harpel, Silverdale, WABrother: Arlen Duane Bates, Idaho Falls, ID 10 GrandchildrenHe was preceded in death by his wife, Reta Summers Bates, and a son, Orvin Verl Bates, Jr. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m Friday, December 7, 2001, at the Idaho Falls LDS 4th Ward, (955 Memorial Drive), with Bishop Larry Wilson, officiating.
The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge Ave., Idaho Falls, ID) and for one hour prior to the services on Friday at the church.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team.
