Click Here To View Memorial Video Opal Preal Hanni-Young, 86, of Sagle, Idaho, went to be with the Lord on March 15, 2015, at Hummingbird Fields Hospice House in Hayden, Idaho, with her family at her side. Opal was born October 21,1928, in Moore, Idaho, to John and Agnes Bassett-Hanni. Opal grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls. In 1946, she met and married Glenn Mitchell and had her first child Karen, in 1948. They were later divorced. On October 4, 1953, she married Lorenzo Dow Young in Idaho Falls, Idaho. To this union were born six children, Sandi, Shari, Debbie, Rick, Lisa and Darren. During that time she worked at Dick's Market in Idaho Falls. She loved that job and talked about it through the years to her children. She took very good care of Karen as a single parent. Dow and Opal lived in Idaho Falls for several years and then moved to Pocatello in the early 60's and ran a small music business out of their home. Two years later they moved back to Idaho Falls and then in 1970 moved to Great Falls MT. Opal worked for Electric City Conservatory and loved creating plant and flower arrangements. She loved playing bingo with her sister Dola. Upon Dow's retirement, they relocated to Sandpoint, Idaho, where they managed a small Trailer and RV park. In 1986 they acquired property in Sagle, Idaho. They both loved this place in the woods of northern Idaho. Opal spent many hours working in her beautiful flower beds and taking long walks with her beloved Rotweilers, Radar, Heidi and Hailey. Many wonderful memories were made there throughout the years with family. Opal devoted her entire life to being a loving mother and grandmother. She was always there for her children. Grandma will be remembered for her delicious Austrians, that the grandchildren would line up for with their plates in hand, patiently waiting for the next one to come out of the frying pan. Her cinnamon rolls were another huge hit with the kids. She loved sports. Grandma taught most of her grandchildren and great grandchildren to play baseball and would have full blown games out in the field. Everyone knew where the sports equipment box was in the backroom. Opal was an avid pinocle and rummy player throughout the years and loved playing with her family. She even cheated sometimes, only by accident of course. In 2008 Opal had a stroke which left her paralyzed on her left side. She moved into a nursing home and family spent many hours with her there playing games and visiting. She was still a character and made her family laugh often. Her kids brought her home many times in a bus named Buster. All seven of her children took her to Mount Rushmore in an RV. A great time was had by all. Opal had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and loved reading the Guidpost booklets and her Bible. She was always praying for her family and friends. She cherished her visits from her out of town family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (Dow Young), two brothers (Delmar and Basil Hanni), adopted brother (Ken Summers), sister (Lola Scheer) and her beloved Granddaughter (Whitney Golie). Opal is survived by her daughter Karen (Tom) Brothers-Havlicak of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter Sandi (Rick) Shirley of Sagle, ID; daughter Shari (Dave) Golie of Hamilton, MT; daughter Debbie (Darrell) Eby of Troy, MT; son Rick (Bea) Young of Sagle, ID; daughter Lisa Young-Moore of Sandpoint, ID and Darren (Christine) Young of Hillsboro, OR.
