Opal Geneve Jordan Browning, 85, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away October 26, 2012, at The Gables Assisted Living Center in Ammon, of causes incident to age. Opal was born September 22, 1927, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Harvey William Jordan and Ethel Johnson Jordan. She grew up in Milo and attended schools in Ucon, graduating from Ucon High School. She also attended Idaho State University. On June 6, 1948, she married W. Gene Browning in Milo, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized June 7, 1966, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They made their home in Idaho Falls. Opal was a wife, mother, and homemaker. She taught 3rd and 4th grades at Lincoln Elementary. She was the first teacher for Head Start Program and later was a substitute teacher in District #91. Her husband, Gene, passed May 29, 2003. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in the Primary, Relief Society, Cub Scouts, and as a pianist. She taught piano for many years and enjoyed baking breads and rolls, sewing, embroidery, bowling, and spending time in Island Park. Opal loved children; she thought kids “make the world go ‘round.” Opal is survived by Daughter, Gloria (Alan) Udy of Idaho Falls, ID, Son, Kent (Elyse) Browning of Idaho Falls, ID, Daughter, Carol Browning of Idaho Falls, ID, Daughter, Pauline (John) Burden of Ririe, ID, Daughter, Pamela (Mark) Merkley of Idaho Falls, ID; Brother, Eugene (Marjorie) Jordan of McMinnville, OR; Sister-In-Law, Marie Jordan of Milo, ID; 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Robert Jordan and Douglas Jordan, a granddaughter, Amanda Helen Martin, and a sister-in-law, Helen Burgard. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at the Idaho Falls LDS St. Leon Ward, 6925 North 15th East. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge, and Tuesday from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
