Omer Lee Abbott, 92, of Idaho Falls, passed away February 9, 2013, at his home of natural causes. He was under the care of his family and Encompass Hospice.
He was born March 26, 1920, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Jesse Lee Abbott and Annie Marion Stewart Abbott. Omer, his younger brother, Bud, and their sister, Pauline, grew up and attended school in Arizona.
Omer served as a Sergeant in the U. S. Army during World War II, where he was a tank-handling instructor and was known for his sharpshooting skills with a pistol. After he left the service he worked as a manager for a large commercial cabinet manufacturer until he moved to northern California. He and his son, Jerry, owned Abbott Cabinet Company in northern California for over 20 years.
Following his military service Omer moved to the Los Angeles area, where he met the love of his life, Lillian Ellen Nelson. They were married in May, 1941, in Yuma, Arizona. They had three children, Linda Lee, Judy Ann, and Jerry Wayne. In early 2012 they moved to Idaho Falls. Lillian passed away August 11, 2012.
Omer was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In his younger years he enjoyed taking his family waterskiing on the lakes in southern California, restoring old cars, and building hotrods with his buddies. He also loved picnics and spending time with his grandchildren.

Daughter, Linda (Carl) Lee York of Otis, OR;
Daughter, Judy Ann Shepherd of Chico, CA;
Son, Jerry (Karen) Abbott of Idaho Falls, ID;
6 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lillian, a son-in-law, Jerry Shepherd, his brother, Maurice “Bud,” and sister, Pauline.
A Celebration of Life will be held in California at a later date.
