OLIN R. SHIREY, JR.
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Olin Russell Shirey, Jr., 49, of Idaho Falls, died August 17, 2001, at his home. He was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho.
He was born August 26, 1951, at Dayton, Pennsylvania, to Olin Russell Shirey, Sr. and Jane Rebecca Williamson Shirey. He spent his early years in Naperville, Illinois, where he attended elementary school. He graduated from Pleasant Valley High School in Bettendorf, Iowa.
He married Martha “Marty” Pilgrim June 26, 1971, at Bettendorf, Iowa. He served in the U. S. Navy for two years. After his discharge from the Navy he returned to Bettendorf, where he earned his bachelor's degree from Scott Community College. They have resided the past thirty years in the Quad-Cities area of Iowa, most recently living in Donahue. This past June he moved his family to Idaho Falls to retire. He worked as a field service engineer in the electronics industry. He was also a state certified Police Officer, having graduated in 1986 from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He served three terms as Mayor and Chief of Police of Dixon, Iowa from 1984 to 1988. He then served as a Police Officer in Princeton, Iowa, from 1989 to 2000.
He was an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He enjoyed water sports, camping, and electronics. He was a very civic minded man who spent his life in the service of those in his community.

Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2001, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 800 Westhill Avenue, with Pastor Martin Emslie officiating. The family will visit with friends for one hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the church.
Burial will be in Ririe-Shelton Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team.
