NORRINE RICKS PARKINSON
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Norrine Ricks Parkinson, 91, of Idaho Falls, died May 4, 2002, her home.
She was born February 15, 1911, at Rexburg, Idaho, to Daniel Ricks and Sarah Elizabeth Jones Ricks. She attended grade school in Rexburg and graduated from high school at Ricks Academy in 1929. She worked for Utah Power & Light during the depression.
She married Joseph Maughan Parkinson April 8, 1931, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They made their home in Rexburg for many years, where he owned and operated Parkinson Tractor Company and she was the bookkeeper. In 1952 they moved their family of three daughters to Idaho Falls, when he expanded his business to three cities. In 1955 they bought a dry farm east of Idaho Falls and she helped him farm until 1976. She was especially good at driving the grain truck and the tractors. Her husband passed away January 2, 1987.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she was a talented pianist and accompanist and served as ward organist for over 45 years. She also served as Relief Society President and Visiting Teaching Coordinator. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
A great-granddaughter of Rexburg founder, Thomas E. Ricks, she was always a loyal support of Ricks College. She and her husband were honored as distinguished alumni in 1982. After Joe's death she helped to fund the Outdoor Learning Center at the college and was honored with the Presidents' Club Service Award. She was an active volunteer with the Idaho Falls Hospital Auxiliary for many years, with over 11,000 hours of volunteer service. She also served as their President and Treasurer. She was a recipient of the James E. West Fellowship Award of the Boy Scouts of America.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m Friday, May 10, 2002, at the Idaho Falls LDS 11th Ward, 1235 Juniper, with Bishop Mark Paulsen officiating. The family will meet with friends on Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the services on Friday at the church.
