NORMAN TOP
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Norman Top, 85, of Idaho Falls, peacefully passed away September 12, 2002, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer.
He was born February 17, 1917 at Ririe, to Niels Nielsen Top and Anna Knudsen Top. He grew up and attended schools in the area.
On December 6, 1939 he married Alta Mary Cleverley in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. In his earlier years, he was a farmer, a groceryman and salesman. For over 20 years he owned and operated Top Fabrics in downtown Idaho Falls. Active in civic affairs he served on several community and downtown business committees.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Bishop of the Idaho Falls 16th Ward and later the 2nd Ward. For many years he worked as an officiator in the Idaho Falls Temple. He loved the youth and served in numerous leadership and teaching capacities. He was a Lifetime Scouter and had been a registered scout for over 70 years. Recently, he was recognized for his significant and long-time service to scouting with the prestigious Grand Teton Council "Hall of Fame" award.
He loved and was loved much by many and served and influenced countless people. His family and his many, many friends will miss him, but will always remember his influence and example. Surviving are:Son: N. Ferris (Linda) Top, Portland, ORSon: Ken (Kathy) Top, Idaho Falls, IDSon: Brent L. (Wendy) Top, Pleasant Grove, UTSister: Magda Pace , Phoenix, AZSister: Edith Keppner , Twin Falls, ID12 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Alta; his son, Robert; a brother, Wagn, and a grandson, Christian.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2002, at the Idaho Falls LDS 2nd Ward (9th and Boulevard), with Bishop Bowen Huntsman officiating.
The family will meet with friends on Monday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge) and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be in the Rigby-Pioneer Cemetery.
