IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Norman Gleen “Norm” Shipps, 65, of Idaho Falls, passed away June 1, 2009, due to injuries sustained in an accident.
Norm was born August 17, 1943, in Sedalia, Missouri, to Harry Gleen Shipps and Norma Charlene Green Shipps and was raised by his mother and stepfather, William A. Wiemer.
Norm took off after high school at 18 to see the country, and then became a truck driver, which he loved so much that he continued trucking for 47 years. He worked for different companies and at the time of his death was employed by CedarPoint Trucking out of Rexburg, Idaho.
Norm married and had three children, Marcella (Paul) Patton, Marty (Laurie) Shipps, and Charlene Shipps, all of Nebraska. They have provided him with six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Norm eventually met and then married the “love of his life,” Betty Chadwick Stanley, on March 7, 1987. From this union he ‘inherited’ five more children, Cindy (Dan) Todd of Petoskey, MI, Cathy (Brian) Schenck of Kalispell, MT, Michelle (Ken) Fullmer of Idaho Falls, ID, Michael (Nikki) Stanley of Idaho Falls, ID, Sherrie (Brian) Benner of Nampa, ID, plus 22 more grandchildren.
When Norm was not trucking he spent all of his time with Betty and his family. Norm loved the outdoors and camping on their property in Mackay, Idaho. He was a ‘master’ of Dutch-oven cooking and loved to cook for everyone, especially his cobblers and Mountain Man breakfasts. If it could be cooked in a Dutch-oven, he would cook it! When he was not camping he was always remodeling his home and loved to create something new for them to enjoy (every crooked corner of it).
Norm was a great husband, father, and grandfather and will be deeply missed. We love you!
Norm is survived by his wife, Betty, children and grandchildren, and two sisters, Pamela (James) Sund and Deborah (Dave) Geis. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Cheryl, and a grandchild.
The family will visit with friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge.
Burial will follow at a later date in Fielding Memorial Park.

I was so sorry to hear of your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. I know how hard it is. If you ever need to talk I would be happy to listen. Rely on your children and stay close to them, they will be a big comfort to you. As for the children, please stay close to your mom - she will need you and you will need her.
