NORMA LUFKIN BURKE
1911-2004
SANDY, UT -- Norma Lufkin Burke, 93, formerly of Annis,
Idaho, returned to her Heavenly Father on August 19, 2004, at Garden Terrace
Nursing Home in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She was born March 15, 1911, in Annis, Idaho, to George
T. Lufkin and Alice Ann Heaps Lufkin, the 8th of ten children. She grew
up in Annis and graduated from Rigby High School. She worked as a switchboard
operator for Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co. in Rigby, Phillips
Petroleum Co. as switchboard operator and the Atomic Energy Commission
at the Site and at the A.E.C. headquarters in Idaho Falls as chief operator.
On Nov. 2, 1939, she married Samuel LaMar Burke in Iona,
Idaho, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 10,
1940. They lived in Iona, Idaho Falls, and Annis, Idaho.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day
Saints. She was a visiting teacher for 46 years, and served faithfully
in many callings. She and LaMar served six years as Spanish Extraction
Missionaries at the Menan Stake Center. The last six years she lived in
Utah with and around four of her children. She spent the last two years
in assisted living and under nursing care in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She is survived by five children, Morris J. Burke (Meria)
of Las Cruses, New Mexico, Marlin L. Burke of Ogden, Utah, Gordon L. Burke
of Ogden, Utah, Steven R. Burke (Sandra) of Sandy, Utah, and LaRue Dennis
(Richard) of Salt Lake City, Utah; 16 grand children, 29 great grand children
(2 more to arrive), 2 great-great grand children, 2 step grand children
and 6 step great grand children. She was preceded in death by her husband
in December, 1993, her six brothers and three sisters and their spouses,
and one step great granddaughter.
Funeral Services with be at 11 a.m. Monday, August 23,
2004, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, Idaho Falls. The family will
visit with friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday for one hour prior
to the services, both at Wood Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Annis-Little Butte Cemetery under the
direction of Wood Funeral Home.
