Nina Mae (Janzen) Humphries

The World’s Greatest Mom, Nina Mae Janzen Humphries, 97, passed peacefully away, November 9, 2023, at home surrounded by her family. Nina’s last days were lovingly cared for, not only by her family, but under the direction of Enhabit Hospice.

Nina was born September 4, 1926, in Shelley, Idaho, to Lottie Mae Summers and Daniel Earl Janzen. Nina grew up and attended schools in the Shelley area. She graduated from Shelley High School, and married her kindergarten sweetheart, Wendell Humphries, for time and all eternity in the Logan, Utah Temple on July 6, 1944.

Nina was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had numerous callings in the Young Women’s program and Relief Society. However, she especially loved the Girl’s Camp program. She was Camp Director for all four of her daughters. Stake Leaders loved her campfire cooking and especially when she did her buried, pit cooked turkeys or roasts.

Her grandchildren’s favorite treat was going to Swan Valley for a square ice cream cone. She would go huckleberry picking to make huckleberry jam and the family favorite, huckleberry cheesecake. Her grandsons taught her to fish when she was about 60, and she became hooked. She mostly enjoyed fishing the Warm River and the Teton River. Other hobbies she enjoyed were various day jaunts with friends or family and curling up with a blanket and a good book.

She was preceded in death by her spouse, Wendell; her parents; and three precious grandsons.

She is survived by her sister, Lois, and two sisters-in-law.

Nina’s posterity includes her five children, MJ (Jackie) Humphries, Pat (Fred) Trussell, Kathy Virgil-Belding, Cindy (Tony) Krukowski, Laurie (Richard) Field; 19 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren.

She was loved by all who knew her and will be missed.
