Click Here To View Memorial Video Nick Joseph Dyorich, 74, of Idaho Falls, passed away October 4, 2013, at his home of natural causes. Nick was born June 7, 1939, in Windber, Pennsylvania, to John Dyorich and Mildred Perensovich Dyorich. He was baptized into the Greek Orthodox Church, and later became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served for many years teaching and serving on both the Ward and Stake level. He graduated from High School in Detroit, Michigan. Nick attended Central Michigan University, where he played baseball as a pitcher. In 1958, He ventured West for a summer logging job in Northern Idaho. While on a trip through Yellowstone National Park , he met Harriet Joyce Payne, from Idaho Falls, who was working a summer job at the Old Faithful soda fountain. After a courtship and correspondence of several years, they were married October 12, 1962 and Nick became a permanent transplant, building their home and family in Idaho, Utah, and various western states as they both continued their education and careers . Nick went on to obtain his Bachelor's Degree from Brigham Young University. He earned his Masters Degree in English from the University of Oregon. Nick taught high school English in Arizona, Idaho and Utah, and was also a debate coach at Bonneville High School. He also taught at the Eastern Idaho Technical College for several years. He later became a regional text book sales representative for Allyn and Bacon and later Harcourt Brace Jovanovich Publishers. During this time Nick covered Utah, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming, traveling extensively. Nick loved to fish, and he would always have his fishing rod in his car as he traveled, stopping at streams and rivers along the ways to his next appointment. He would often take his children on the road with him; as they fondly remember those years wading through the brush trying to keep up with him. Nick and Joyce later divorced, and Nick eventually worked as a literacy outreach consultant for New Mexico State University. He enjoyed teaching and was a life-long champion of local literacy programs. With more time on his hands as he grew older, there wasn't a radio talk show he didn't have on speed dial when he was feeling up to a good debate. Though Nick grew to love the West, he took great pride in his Pennsylvania/Michigan upbringing, and fondly treasured his family, friends, and the places of his childhood throughout his life. Nick is survived by his son, Jeffrey Clark Dyorich of Shelley, ID; daughter, Jennifer Anne (Jed) Campbell of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Kirk Joseph (Lisa) Dyorich of Rexburg, ID; son, Matthew Nick (Rebecca) Dyorich of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Johnny Drew (Cherrie) Dyorich of AZ; brother, Joseph (Marie) Dyorich of Michigan; brother, Michael (Bonnie) Dyorich of Michigan. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, John Dyorich, a nephew, Danny Dyorich, and a niece, Jessica Danielle Dyorich.
