NICK CONANT
PAYETTE, ID -- The great outdoors lost one of its best Saturday, August 24th, when Nick Conant succumbed to the river Gods on the North Fork of the Payette, despite the valiant efforts of many, many people.
He was doing what he loved – being outside, facing a challenge, and sharing that experience with good friends. Nick spent his first years in Charleston, Illinois, then Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but lived most of his life in Idaho. He graduated from Bonneville ('85) and obtained two degrees in engineering at the University of Idaho.
He met and later married Val Mandiloff at university and they lived in Coeur d'Alene, biking, backpacking, climbing, mountaineering, skiing, and swimming in Lake Coeur d'Alene. He also played computer games and enjoyed watching auto racing.
Nick worked as an engineer in Spokane for Pyrotek and was the family computer consultant.
He is survived by his wife, Valerie Mandiloff; parents, Roger and Margaret, and brother, Darren.
Services will be at the family home at 1882 East Sunnyside Road, Wednesday, August 28th, at 4 p.m.
Donations are being accepted in memory of Nick Conant at:Idaho River UnitedP. O. Box 633Boise, ID 83701.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
I also wanted to let you know how sorry I am to hear about Nick. I went to college with Nick at the U of I and he was a fraternity brother of mine. I haven't seen him since college but I have fond memories of Nick, his long hair and his obsession with AC/DC. He was a fun loving guy and a great guy to have around. I also am truly sorry for your loss...

I just wanted you to know how sorry I was to hear about Nick's accident. I haven't seen or spoken to him since we stopped dating in high school, but I will always have fond memories of what a terrific guy he was and what a great family you have. My sincere condolences go out to both of you, and to Darren and Valerie as well. I am truly sorry for your loss. I will miss knowing that Nick is around.
