NETTIE BARTLETT
BOISE, ID - Nettie Davenport Forbes Bartlett, 91, formerly
of Idaho Falls, died February 1, 2004 at Paramount Parks Assisted Living
Center in Boise.
Nettie was born on March 22, 1912 in Woodville, Idaho to Ezra Sperry and
Martha Arminta Higley Davenport. She was reared on a farm with a large
family where she was taught how to work. She attended the old Taysom school
in Woodville, and graduated from Shelley High School and L.D.S. Seminary.
While living in Idaho Falls, she met Vernal Benjamin Forbes from Ucon,
Idaho at the “Wandemere” dance hall. They were married on
October 29. 1931 in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. Vernal passed away on July
12, 1957 and left Nettie with the family business, the Forbes Potato Harvester
Co.
Nettie married Lemial Zeeland (Zeke) Bartlett on October 23, 1970 and
moved to Twin Falls, Idaho where Zeke was Fire Chief for the city.
Nettie was active in the LDS church, serving in various auxiliaries. She
has served as Relief Society President, YWMIA President, and as an instructor
in the Primary and a Relief Society visiting teacher. Nettie and Zeke
were called to the Colorado Denver Mission in 1975, and served 18 months
in Hays, Kansas.
She enjoyed sewing, quilting, croqueting, traveling, keeping photo albums,
working in her scrapbooks, hunting through antique stores, and garage
sales. She taught herself calligraphy and spent many evenings copying
poetry in journals for gifts. Nettie lived a long, full life and will
be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by two children, Cheryl Lee (William) Hansen of Mission
Viejo, California and Vernal DeLloy (Susan) Forbes of Boise, Idaho, seven
grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a sister Elaine Saunders of Milwaukie,
Oregon, a sister Evelyn Barrie of Ucon, Idaho, and a brother Clair Davenport
of Salt Lake City. In her “Bartlett” family, she is survived
by three stepsons: Lee (Joycelyn) of Mesa, Arizona, Max (Lorraine) of
Twin Falls, Idaho, Dale (Krista) of Porterville, California, and one stepdaughter
Sherol (Jerry) Jones of Westminster, Colorado, 25 grandchildren, 80 great
grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernal; her husband,
Zeke; four sisters, Ila Burtenshaw, Velda George, Stella Papic, and Vera
Richards; two brothers, Lawrence and Floyd Davenport; a stepdaughter,
Shirley Tolman; and a stepson, Jay Bartlett.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2004, at
Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue in Idaho Falls. The family will
meet with friends on Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273
N. Ridge) and for one hour prior to the services. Burial will be at Fielding
Memorial Park.
