Neil Sargent

Click Here To View Memorial Video Lloyd Neil Sargent, 77, of Iona, Idaho, passed away March 15, 2014, at his home of causes incident to Parkinson’s and diabetes. He was born October 5, 1936, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Lloyd Roy Sargent and Lula Elaine Wilkins Sargent. Neil grew up in the area, attended Ucon Elementary, and graduated from Bonneville High School. He continued his education at Ricks College, Brigham Young University, Utah State University in Logan, and Boise State University. On December 30, 1958, he married Marilyn Horman Scoresby in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Together they had eight children. They lived in Ammon for 18 years, and have spent the last 36 years in Iona. Neil loved his family, sports and fishing. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He served a mission to the Southern States and served in many other capacities, including Young Men’s President, Scoutmaster, counselor in a bishopric in Ammon, High Councilor, and Bishop of the Iona Second Ward. He loved young people, and was an English and P.E. teacher for 34 years. He coached wrestling, football, basketball and golf. He was a great athlete, and played all four sports in high school and at Ricks College. He loved to play baseball and softball in the summers. He took extra jobs to support his missionaries. Neil is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Marilyn Sargent of Iona, ID; Sons: Lloyd Bryce (Lauralyn) Sargent of Blackfoot, ID; Kevin Paul (Catherine) Sargent of Powell, OH; Alan Neil (Annette) Sargent of Idaho Falls, ID; Travis Norman (Christa) Sargent of Stansbury, UT; Daughters: Janeal Dowalo of Nampa, ID; Lorraine (Courtney) Cox of Orangeville, UT; Angela (Justin) Eller of Lincoln, CA; Denise (Adam) Christian of Bluffdale, UT; Brothers: Lynn W. (JoAnn) Sargent; Van Dee (LarRene) Sargent; Sisters-in-Law: Mary Lou (Doyle) Rindlisbaker; Fern (Lynn, deceased) Benson; Leah (Harry) Thackery; Marjorie (Newel, deceased) Sargent; Brothers-in-Law: Fred (Wanda) Scoresby; Harold (Jean) Scoresby; John (Marilyn) Scoresby; 32 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, a brother, Newel, brothers-in-law and their spouses, Charles and Sherry Scoresby, Bill and Afton Scoresby, and Lynn Benson. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at the Iona LDS Stake Center, 7555 North 55 East, Iona. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and Wednesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Encompass Home Health and Hospice and Mountain View Wound Care for the care and compassion extended to Neil.
