Nathan Walter Peck, 47, of Spokane, Washington, passed away January 9, 2021, after an extended battle with Covid-19 in Seattle, Washington.
Nathan was Born July 2, 1973, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the third child of five and oldest son of Walter Eugene and Louise Welker Peck. He grew up and attended school in many locations including Provo, Santaquin, and Orem, Utah, as an exchange student in Germany and graduated from Redmond High School in Redmond, Washington.
Family life was active and full of footloose fun, adventure, and love. Nathan loved spending time outdoors playing in fields, riding bikes in the gravel pit near his home, camping, and hiking in the mountains, and fishing on Grandpa Welker's boat. He was an avid reader of fantasy novels and spent countless hours playing games like Axis and Allies, Catan and Nertz with friends. An appreciation for good food and working as a waiter in restaurants as a young adult, led Nathan to love cooking and inventing new food combinations to bring out the flavor and enjoyment of eating.
Nathan served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Zurich, Switzerland Mission. He attended the University of Washington, Purdue University, and obtained a Bachelor's degree in International Business from Strayer University in 2005. In June 2000, Nathan enlisted in the Air Force, receiving a Diploma with Honors from the Defense Language Institute in August 2001 where he studied Russian. Serving in the Intelligence Wing, he was employed by the NSA in Maryland for 4 years. A transfer took his little family to Spokane, Washington, where Nathan served in the Procurement Division at Fairchild Air Force Base. He sought and received an honorable discharge from the Air Force in 2007. Possessing keen intelligence and a love of learning, Nathan was a true entrepreneur at heart. But his most outstanding trait was his kind and compassionate nature. Clear until the end of his life, he often cared for and helped others, attempting to lift them up, more than caring for himself.
He married Heather Reckling, his Florence Nightingale, in November of 1998, in the Manti Utah Temple. They later divorced. They were blessed with four beautiful children, Elizabeth, AnneLisa, Caeson, and Hailey. He loved his children and viewed them as precious gifts and he deeply mourned any harm he caused them. While he was separated from them in life, he is now free to be with them and help them in their life's journey and to someday be reunited in Heaven under the ever-forgiving eye of a loving Savior.
Nathan is survived by his loving parents, Walter and Louise Peck of Colbert, WA; his sisters, Amy Policky (Don) of Rapid City, SD, and Debbie Schupp (Matt) of Colbert, WA; brothers, Jared Peck (Brenda) of Puyallup, WA, and Stephan Peck (April) of Issaquah, WA; a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; and his beloved children, Elizabeth, Annie, Caeson and Hailey.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter and Anna Peck of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Gerald and Georgina Welker of Fort Collins, Colorado.
The lost time we may have spent with him is poignant and painful, but our faith is ever strong in the assurance that we may be together again as an eternal family. Nathan's last message was one of appreciation for the love and support of his family during the long trials of his life. We will always remember your big smile and great bear hugs and kind eyes. You are finally free.
