Naomi Valora Nielson Larsen, 91, of Idaho Falls, passed away on April 5, 2014, at The Gardens of Rigby. She was born August 25, 1922, in Goshen, Idaho to Oliver H. Nielson and Astrid Johannson Nielson. Her childhood was spent in Goshen and she graduated from Firth High School. On December 12, 1940, she married Jay Raphael Larsen in the Logan LDS Temple in Logan, Utah. He preceded her in death on December 15, 1990. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She worked in sales and buying at J.C. Penneys for 25 years and for many years at The Rose Shop. Naomi was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including Ward Chorister and as a temple worker. She enjoyed music, quilting, watching wrestling and Jazz basketball, playing Chinese Checkers with her children and grand children. She also enjoyed spending winters with her husband in Yuma, Arizona. Survivors are: Son: Jay (Karen Lee) Larsen, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Vicki (Brent) Peterson, Burley, ID Daughter: Lana (Jan) Kirkham, Shelley, ID Daughter: Karen (Bruce) Dobson, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Kay (David) Larsen Dickson, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Janaye (Shawn) Berthelson, Idaho Falls, ID Brother: Carlos Nielson Brother: Marvin Nielson Sister: Nancy Nielson Sister: Melva Johnson 29 Grandchildren, 93 Great Grandchildren, and 10 Great Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents; her spouse; a grandson, Kale Kirkham; 1 great grandson, Brycen Blackburn; 3 brothers, Lavern Nielson, Dennis Nielson, and Carl Nielson; and 3 sisters, Edla Schnell, Venice Hess, and Marilyn Hansen. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the caregivers at The Gardens of Rigby: Dennis, Cindy, Suzanne, Amber, Tegan, Kenzi, Kelsey, and Dorthy as well as Hands of Hope Hospice, especially Betsy. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Attn: Donor Services, 6126 W. State St., Suite 305, Boise, ID 83703, with a note that funds be used locally in Idaho Falls. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at the Goshen Cemetery. The family will meet with friends on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until 12 noon at Wood Funeral Home East Side (963 S. Ammon) prior to traveling to the cemetery.
