Nancy Powell passed away March 9, 2011, after a courageous battle against lung cancer. Nancy passed away at her home in Idaho Falls with her loving husband, Tom, at her side.
Nancy Marie Alder was born February 5, 1948, in Salmon, Idaho, the firstborn daughter of Ronald and Frances Alder. Nancy lived in the Tendoy area most of her life. She attended grade school at the one room Tendoy School, transferring to Leadore after the sixth grade. She graduated from Leadore High School.
Nancy spent endless hours growing up taking lessons and practicing on her accordion. While she was attending college in Boise, Nancy had the opportunity to audition with Myron Floren for the Lawrence Welk Show. Although she was not selected to be on the show, it was quite an honor and accomplishment to get to that last audition.
While attending school in Boise, Nancy met Dick Langis. Nancy and Dick married a short time later and lived in many different states during the following years before settling in Oregon, where their son, Richard, was born.
After Richard was grown and on his own, Nancy and Dick divorced and she moved back home to her beloved Idaho.
Nancy and her best friend, Tom Powell, were married March 17, 2001, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tom and Nancy made their home in Idaho Falls at the time of her death.
One of Nancy and Tom’s favorite things to do was to go on a drive to Salmon to visit Uncle Bill, spend some time at Sharkey Hot Spring and visit Aunt Clover on the way home. She also spent many pleasant days at Mesa Falls with Tom.
Nancy was a loving, caring person who will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure to meet her.
Nancy was preceded in death by her grandparents as well as her mother and father, Ron and Frances Alder. She is survived by her husband, Tom; son, Richard; stepchildren, Brenda (Kenny) Stewart and Sean Powell; Grandchildren, Martin, Simon, Julian, Elizabeth “Izzy”, Brent, Aubree, Clayton, Kaytlynn, and Payton; and sister, Robin.
