Nancy Lee Lance Pitcher died suddenly and peacefully in her Idaho Falls home Friday, September 9, 2016, of natural causes at the age of 68. Nancy was born October 15, 1947, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Noel Jefferson Lance and Iris O. Keller Lance. She was the youngest of nine children. During her growing up years, she attended school at the Riverside Elementary School and O. E. Bell Jr. High, and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. She went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work from Brigham Young University. Nancy began her working career in Everett, Washington, working for the unemployment office there. She later transferred to Idaho Falls and worked for the Idaho Department of Labor until her retirement. Her favorite programs there were those that worked with disadvantaged youth. She helped them find summer jobs, critical for those teenagers. It was when working these programs that she met her future husband, Michael Orvid Pitcher. They married in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple August 21, 1981. To this marriage were born two children, Katie and Justin. Nancy enjoyed watching them grow up and was always very involved in their activities and loved their friends. Nancy maintained an open-door and an open-fridge policy and all friends were welcome at any time. Nancy has been an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the Young Women's program, Relief Society, Primary, and served two separate church missions from her home as a Family History Support Specialist. She particularly loved the mission callings, as she got to speak with people from all areas of the world. Nancy loved diversity and had many friends from all walks of life, including many international friends. To her, it didn’t matter what a person's circumstances were, she could still be a friend. Those who remain to mourn her passing are her husband of 35 years, Mike; a daughter, Katie (Jason) Pletcher; a son, Justin Ryan (Chelise) Pitcher; three grandchildren who were the light of her life; Adalaye Nicole Pletcher, Chael Eli Pletcher, and Gideon Michael Pitcher. She also leaves behind a number of brothers and sisters, including: a brother, Danny (LuAnne) Lance; a sister, Sharon (the late Kurt) Sundelin; a sister, Bonnie (Calvin) Miller; a brother, Noel J. (Pat) Lance; a brother, Michael G. (Laura) Lance and her father-in law, Orvid Pitcher. Additionally, numerous other relatives and friends will feel the loss at her passing. Preceding her in death were both of her parents; a brother, Jack A. (the late JoAnn) Lance; a sister, Ann Lance (the late Robert) Carrig; a brother, Roy G. (Beth) Lance, brothers-in-law, Kurt (Sharon) Sundelin, Paul V. (Alyce) Bosch and her mother-in-law, Marva G. Pitcher. Nancy was happiest at home with her cat, her Diet Coke and her kids, or just relaxing with Mike.
