Nancy Brizzee

Nancy Fern Tibbitts Brizzee, 71, of Idaho Falls, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2012, at her home from complications associated with Multiple System Atrophy. She was under the care of her family and Aspen Home Care and Hospice. Nancy was born July 2, 1940, in Idaho Falls, to James Howard Tibbitts and Lorna Whiting Tibbitts. She grew up on the family farm in Lorenzo, where shocking grain, cutting, weeding, and picking potatoes were standard responsibilities. She attended Rigby schools and graduated from Rigby High School, where she was Homecoming Queen in 1958. She attended Utah State University (Kappa Delta) after high school graduation, but returned back to her home after two years. At this time she began dating Noel “Chupe” Brizzee, who had just returned from an LDS mission to North Carolina and Virginia. On August 31, 1961, they were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Their lives together began when her husband continued his education at Brigham Young University. Nancy was employed at the Seminaries and Institutes Program of the church as a secretary while Chupe completed his degree. She was well-known throughout the BYU administration for her secretarial skills. In 1965, Chupe and Nancy went to Snowflake, Arizona, to begin Chupe’s teaching career. After a year spent in Snowflake, Nancy was anxious to return to Utah State University to complete her college education and to obtain a teaching certificate. With two small children, she spent the next several months realizing her dream. After obtaining her degree, the family returned to eastern Idaho, where Nancy began a teaching career at Idaho Falls High School that lasted forty years. Last August, Nancy and Chupe quietly celebrated with family members their 50th wedding anniversary. We pay tribute to our remarkable and faithful father, who conscientiously cared for our mother during her extended illness. Nancy was a wife, mother, and an educator. She and Chupe raised five children. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was faithful in all callings which were asked of her. Her children gave to her a great amount of happiness during her lifetime. Survivors include her Husband: Noel H. Brizzee of Idaho Falls, ID; Son: David Brizzee of Paris, France; Daughter: Lucille Brizzee of Ogden, UT; Son: Richard Brizzee of Idaho Falls, ID; Daughter: Noelle Brizzee of Idaho Falls, ID; Son: Ben (Ingrid) Brizzee of Idaho Falls, ID; and grandchildren Brookelyn, Braeden, Jaren, and Sydney. Nancy is also survived by her siblings, Jim (JoAnne) Tibbitts of Lorenzo, ID; Dr. Lucille (Frank Ferguson) Stoddard of Provo, UT; and twin brother John (Jill Boyd) Tibbitts of Billings, MT. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Lorna Tibbitts, and a beloved sister, Margaret Curtis. We miss each of them everyday.
