Nadine Duersch Powell

October 29, 1945 — January 30, 2026

Iona

Nadine Duersch Powell passed away peacefully at her home on January 30, 2026. She was born on October 29, 1945, to Alma and Nada Duersch. She was the oldest of seven children. She was born in Driggs, Idaho, and grew up in Alta, Wyoming.

Nadine had a wonderful childhood growing up on a farm where she learned early on how to work hard and play together. These were traits that would serve her well all her life. On the farm she learned a lot, she milked cows, fed many animals, drove a tractor, hauled hay, gardened, helped with her younger siblings and learned the importance of family time. In her words, "Mom always made chores fun. Us kids just knew we needed to help. It was our way of helping to provide."

After graduating from Teton High School in Driggs, Idaho, she attended and graduated from Ricks College (BYU-I) in Rexburg, Idaho, in 1966, with an Associate Degree in Education. After graduation from Ricks, she served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern States Mission, which included Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, and Florida.

After she returned from her mission, she pursued her Bachelor's Degree at BYU in Provo, Utah. While she was student teaching in Provo, she was offered a teaching position in Price, Utah. A friend set her up with a "nice looking man." David Powell knocked on her door for a blind date, and in her words, "I felt like I had known him from somewhere before."

Nadine and David were married for time and all eternity in the Manti, Utah Temple on November 22, 1975. They lived most of their married life together in their home in Iona, Idaho, where they raised seven children. Their children are: Joy Powell, Matthew Powell of New York, NY; Dawn (Eric) Ludvigson of Mayfield, UT; Julie (Ken) Ragan of Idaho Falls, ID; Alma (Ashley) Powell of Tremonton, UT; Emily (Josh) Horting of Clinton, UT; Jim (Storee) Powell of Smithfield, UT; Audree Smith of Ogden, UT. She also welcomed David's three children into her heart and home: Dalene (Jim) Popa of Colorado Springs, CO; Heather (Shawn) Ward of Colorado Springs, CO; David (Becca) Powell of Colorado Springs, CO.

Nadine had a love of nature and the outdoors. A flower garden and vegetable garden were a staple every year. She also served in the Boy Scouts of America program for over 20 years. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren. She was a service-minded person and was willing to help, talk to, or cheer on anyone she encountered. Nadine also had a firm love and testimony of the gospel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and of temple work.

Nadine was preceded in death by both her parents, Alma and Nada Duersch; sister, Wanda Mohr; daughter, Joy Powell; sisters-in-law, Jana Young and K'Lene Powell.

Nadine is survived by her husband, David Powell; her siblings, Robert Duersch, Ronald Duersch, Darlene Pead, Ann Saxton, and Nolan Duersch; ten of her children, 21 grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.
